In a bid to educate candidates ahead of the September 17 polls an election manual was launched on Tuesday.

In conjunction with the Fiji National University, the Japanese Embassy Charge d’ Affaires, Kazuo Tsukada launched the manual published under ‘The Project for Electoral Education Support for Democratisation in Fiji’.

“The electoral manual is aimed at providing candidates with the important information needed to participate in an ethical and legally compliant manner in the elections process,” Mr Tsukada said.

“It is my hope that these manuals, leaflets and workshops will efficiently serve the electoral candidates, party agents, members of the media and the general public to better prepare and better understand the general election process in its entirety, as it will be a historic occasion for Fiji.”

Main author Professor Richard Herr of the Fiji National University, said the candidate manual would be supplemented by workshops that would assist the candidates understand the guidelines contained in it.

The workshop began on Tuesday and ends tomorrow.

The Japanese government provided a funding of $450,350 under their Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Programme for the project.”
