Stefan Pichler has been shouldering a huge responsibility as the managing director and chief executive officer of Fiji Airways and he has been very popular with his policies and with staff alike.

His magic will now be displayed as the head of Tourism Fiji- the marketing arm of Fijian tourism destinations.

Mr Pichler brings his wealth of expertise and experience in tourism industry and he is certainly a good choice to lead Tourism Fiji.

His role with Tourism Fiji would not be anything new that he is venturing in. Having spent four years, as chair of the peak German tourism body, Bundesverband der Deutschen Tourismuswirtschaft (BTW), he does know a thing or two about tourism industry.

He has also been a member of the board of Tourism Australia and the global tourism body, the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC).

Mr Pichler has also chaired the Tourism Working Group of the World Economic Forum, the prestigious Swiss-based non profit organisation that brings governments and the private sector together to promote global economic growth.

Aside from holding senior executive positions in several airlines, Mr Pichler is a former CEO of Thomas Cook AG, the world’s second largest leisure travel group, with 35,000 staff and an annual turnover of $US 20-billion.
