So TeimumuKepa has urged SODELPA supporters to desist from making or contributing to negative racist derogatory comments.

She said there were people who could easily create fake profiles and make any kind of comment supporting the party and its visions.

She said the people could pretend to be SODELPA supporters for the sake of creating a bad name for the party, or even openly rebuke it and its supporters and officials.

She was comenting on a Fiji Sun front page article yesterday which highlighted the racial overtones in social media.

She stated that the party stood for racial tolerance. “Whilst we are promoting the recognition and protection of indigenous Fijian rights, we are not suggesting that any other group of people is beneath us or unimportant. It’s the opposite in fact.

“This country is big enough for all of us and we are all equally important. We have lived here amicably all these years and should remain that way She stated that the party stood for racial tolerance.”

She said she was concerned at the way the Fiji Sun “is taking a one-sided stance on social media commentaries by members of the general population.”

In particular, she was concerned with how the Fiji Sun could so easily taint SODELPA and its supporters on supposedly racial comments made in social postings when it was clear that anyone including those that are anti SODELPA, could easily create fake profiles…

“In politics, especially in a non-legalised forum like the social media where there are no rules of engagement, people can be true to themselves.

“The sad thing is that there are so many racists they could always adopt fake profiles to create an impression that they know will have an impact on public opinion commentators against the indigenous people on social media and yet Fiji Sun chose to pick out comments by supposedly Sodelpa supporters,” Ro Teimumu said.

She stated that it was noted that in one such comment by a Ron Kumar, he stated that readers must vote Fiji First or get shot!

“That is not only intimidation, but downright racist and thuggery mentality and yet these kinds of comments are not noted by Fiji Sun.” she said.

Ro Teimumu queried why the Fiji Sun had not taken note or highlighted about the attacks against SODELPA officials for example whose pictures had been stolen from their pages without their authority and fake profiles were created on them to serve as an anti SODELPA and hate site.

“Sodelpa stands for the rights of everyone. When did asking for our rights to be respected and recognised, begin to become a crime?.

“The indigenous Fijians are being asked to share so much including their land and even their qoliqoli. What is being asked by other Fiji islanders and racial groupings in this country to contribute in return?,” she said.
