What happened: The Lambert Sarju-coached Lautoka team remains unbeaten in the second day of the Inkk Mobile Battle of the Giants tournament.

Even playing with 10 men after defender Poasa Bainivalu was red-carded in the first half, the Blues defeated Nadroga 1-0 at Govind Park in Ba yesterday.

After going down to Suva 0-4 in the first game, Nadroga put on a better performance but their strikers never came close to scoring.

After a pep talk from Sarju at halftime, the side regrouped for another great show in the second half securing a 73rd minute goal.

Star play: Josefata Dugucagi scored his second goal of the tournament from a free-kick. He also played the key role in Lautoka’s victory against Navua on Friday.

Big play: Team captain Alvin Avinesh, Zibraaz Sahib, Dugucagi and goalkeeper Senirusi Bokini played a key role in Lautoka’s victory.

And while Lautoka did not have a good outcome in the Fiji Sun/Skipper Tuna National League competitions, they are hoping to have a successful run in the tournament.

Comments:

Lautoka coach Lambert Sarju; “Being down to 10 men the side had to work extra time.

“We kept our game structure and it worked wonders for the side. The team got a couple of yellow cards as they were under pressure and frustrated.”

He says the side is now positive after qualifying for the semifinal but the side has some injuries.

Nadroga coach Joseph Nand: “When you have one man advantage, you should not rush and despite my instructions from the sideline, players did not listen.

He said the side would take some time because most of the young players had not been through the development process.
