The children were inside the house during the incident.

Neighbour Apisalome Bola rescued the children after being alerted by a burning smell.

“I ran and broke through the door since it was locked from inside and both parents were away. Luckily, I was in time and was able to rescue the three kids,” he said.

The National Fire Authority said firefighters responded to the fire at the two-bedroom teacher’s quarters, which was occupied by a female teacher, her spouse and their two children.

National Fire Authority chief fire officer Levuka Jona Caunitutu says investigations are still under way to find out the cause of fire.
