The criminal investigation on the death of robbery suspect Vilikesa Soko, who passed away at the Lautoka Hospital while in Police custody on Wednesday, is continuing.

This was confirmed yesterday by the Fiji Police Force chief operations officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rusiate Tudravu.

The investigation, he said, had been directed by the Commissioner of Police Bernardus Groenewald.

At a press conference at the Police Headquarters, the Commissioner made it very clear that under his leadership, the Fiji Police Force would not tolerate any misconduct by its officers, including the use of excessive force.

Meanwhile preparations for the funeral for Mr Soko had started.

His father, Jerry Soko said his late son would be buried in Suva.

The second suspect, 37-year-old Eroni Baleinukulala is still admitted at the hospital under Police custody.

The court had ordered on Friday that he should not be removed until he was cleared by medical authorities.

The case has been transferred to the High Court in Lautoka.

Baleinukulala will appear on September 3, together with the first accused Senitieli Boila who is also charged with one count of aggravated robbery.
