The Tuckers Ice Cream Fiji Secondary School Basketball Championship starts today in Suva

And there will be 105 pool games played in the next three days at the Vodafone Arena and Ed’s Court in Suva.

Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau confirms four new schools will join the competition in the four-day tourney.

“The new schools are Jasper Williams High and Tilak High of Lautoka, Xavier College from Ba and St John College from Ovalau,” Puamau said.

“This will be a very competitive as 105 pool games in the first three days will be exciting and we know all schools have prepared themselves well,” Puamau said.

Defending the Under-15, U17 and U19 boys’ title will be Latter Day Saints.

Adi Cakobau School will defend the U19 title and will be led by national rep Kelera Koyamainavure.

The Sawani girls expect tough competition from St Joseph’s Secondary School who will feature another national rep Donnis Kainamoli.

Donnis younger sister Tiana Kainamoli will bolster the SJSS U17.

“Some of these students have been selected for our national squad so this will also be the time for the national coaches to assess their performance,” Puamau said.

“We acknowledge teachers and sponsors Goodman Fielder for their support and wish all teams the best of luck.”
