Police officers in Labasa will step up their presence during the 2014 Vodafone Fiji Festival of the Friendly North.

The festival was officially opened on Saturday night at Subrail Park.

Police spokesperson Inspector Atunaisa Sokomuri said more officers would be deployed to the park and residential areas around Labasa to ensure the safety of the public.

“Police will continue to patrol, not only the festival area, but the town and residential areas,” Inspector Sokomuri said.

“Police patrol and security has been part of the Friendly North Festival and we look forward to working with the community in keeping the North safe,” he said.

He urged parents to look after their children during the festival and during the school break.
