Equipment for Fiji’s first mini flour mill at Nasalia Village in Naitasiri is now at the Koronivia Research Station, Nausori.

This was confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture’s director for research, Miliakere Nawaikula.

“We will use local products such as root crops especially cassava, dalo, breadfruit and bananas which will be processed into flour,” Mrs Nawaikula said.

The Nasalia project will process cassava into flour.

“Nasalia is right in the middle of Viti Levu and accessibility is very difficult.

“The machine will help them produce flour that they can use and sell to surrounding areas and possibly sell to other outlets when they are fully operational,” she said.

“The machines will be taken to Nasalia to be commissioned when the building to house the machine is completed.”

The chairman of the Nasalia Village development committee, Inoke Masau, said the villagers were eagerly waiting to start production.

“One of our youth, Poate Qara, had gone to Indonesia last year where he attended two-week training in flour production,” Mr Masau said.

“Mr Qara will also be sharing his knowledge and skills with us. We are grateful to the Indonesian Government for providing the training and equipment for starting Fiji’s mini-flour mill.”
