Four Police officers have been suspended with immediate effect pending the investigation into the death of robbery suspect Vilikesa Soko.

This was revealed by the Fiji Police Force yesterday.

Mr Soko, 30, was arrested by Police on August 15, for his alleged involvement in the daylight robbery at the City Forex Money Exchange in Nadi.

He was admitted at the Lautoka Hospital after his arrest and died last Wednesday while he was under Police custody.

In a statement released by Police yesterday, Commissioner Bernadus Groenewald said at this stage he would not release information about the identities of the suspended officers.

He said this because the criminal investigation was ongoing and all evidence could not be discussed publicly.

“However, I will say now that those involved will be subjected to the full force of law and once we have completed our investigation, we will pass our findings to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions,” Mr Groenewald said.

He expected this to be very soon, but wanted to stress to the public and especially to Mr Soko’s family that they were leaving no stone unturned in finding out what happened.

“We want to be as thorough as possible so that all those responsible are brought to justice. Again extend my sincere condolences to the Soko family,” he said.
