Squad start training; awaiting five members of 7s team to China to return and join team.

The 31-member Fiji Under-18 rugby squad has started training for their New Zealand and Australia tour.

Head coach Elemaca Ravulo said they were waiting for the arrival of the four Ratu Kadavulevu School players who were part of the Youth Olympics team to China.

The players are Epineri Uluiviti, Joseva Rauga, Filipe Qoro and Waisea Daroko.

“Preparation has started well. We have been getting positive responses from players. We are waiting for these four RKS players on Friday,” Ravulo said.

Discussions are under way for the squad to play a warm-up match against the BLK Nadroga U20 side on Saturday at Lawaqa Park as curtain raiser to the the first HFC Farebrother Trophy challenge between defending champions BLK Nadroga and Tacirua Transport Naitasiri.

“The squad will be reduced to 25 later this week. At the moment we are having two training sessions every day,” Ravulo said.

The side will play the New Zealand Schoolboys on September 26 and Australia on September 30.

Last year the Fiji U18 created history when they became the first age-group side to beat the New Zealand Schoolboys during the Tri-Series test at St. Marys Rugby League Stadium in Sydney, Australia.
