What happened: Deft handling and foul play were the order of the day as Yasawa thumped Beqa 35-3 in the Pool B match of the Telecom B-Division competition at Churchill Park in Lautoka yesterday.

The Naele Toqitoqi-captained Yasawa side scored six tries.

Yasawa’s Manoa Qerea kicked the first penalty for their 3-point lead in the ninth minute.

In the 12th minute, Beqa first-five-eighth Lemeki Tuniyavono kicked a drop goal.

Yasawa winger Inia Nasau scored their first try in the 17th minute, in the 39th Seremaia Tanoa scored a try for Yasawa 13-3 Beqa at half-time.

In the 45th minute, Manasa Tuidamu (number 8) peeled from the base of the scrum five metres from the tryline to push Yasawa further.

Seven minutes later, fullback Eroni Sau scored after a backline attack. Two minutes later looseman Jialesi Tauvoli came off the bench to score a try. In the 82nd minute Apenisa Samu sliced through the Beqa defence before running 60 metres before offloading to his winger Inosa Joti which was successfully converted by Qerea.

Comments:Yasawa RU president Maikeli Momolevu: “We were confident to beat Beqa after we lost by default over Malolo. The boys played to the game plan and we are confident to beat Ba in the next match.”

Beqa vice captain Nemani Rakadi said, “Boys did played their fullest, but we were outclassed by Yasawa. We made a lot of mistakes since there was no continuity of the game plan but we have learned a lot from the match.”
