Vodafone Fiji 7s captain Osea Kolinisau is the first player out of the 15 to sign his contract for the upcoming 7s season.

Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan said he was waiting for the rest of the players to follow suit.

“Some of the players have been offered contracts, but we are waiting for them to come in and sign and then we can release their names.” Ryan said.

There are three salary packages which include $20,000 which is for world class 7s players, $17,500 for middle class players and $15,000 for players who have established themselves in the national team.

These contracts will be a boost for the players as they prepare for the 2014/2015 HSBC Sevens World Series where they need to qualify in the top four in order to participate in the 2016 Rio Olympics in Brazil.

24 players to be named today

Out of the 41 players picked, 24 will be named today before they march into camp next week.

Eastern-based players had their fitness test on Tuesday while the western-based players had theirs at the High Performance Gym in Sigatoka which Ryan said he was satisfied.

“I was pleased over all with the effort the boys have put in and they are where I want them to be at the moment,” he said.

They have been impressive and the fitness basically includes a 40 metre sprint, a test of strength and endurance and that is where the boys have been scored upon.”

Ryan hopes to find players who will fill in the positions of Samisoni Viriviri, Benito Masilevu and Donasio Ratubuli who had moved on for overseas contracts.

Ryan’s first hurdle in the 2014/2015 IRB World Series will be the Gold Coast 7s in Australia from October 11-12.
