Final Today

There will be a new INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants winner today when Rewa plays Lautoka in the final at the ANZ Stadium.

This came after Rewa beat All Freight Logistics Suva 2-1 in extra time in the first semifinal while Lautoka edged defending champions 4R Electrical Ba 5-4 after a penalty shootout yesterday.

Rewa shoot-out MarikaRodu said he anticipates a tough game against Lautoka and that the boys will be utilising their experience against Suva to help them in the final.

“It’s going to be difficult, especially after Lautoka beat defending champion Ba, so we will need to up our game if we want to win the finals,” he said.

“The boys were excited and they have learned a lot from their game against Suva so it will be up to them to see us through.”

Rodu added they needed to tidy up a few areas that stood out during their semifinal game before they head into the finals.

“We need to work on maintaining possession of the ball; we cannot afford to allow the opposition to have the ball a lot because that’s when things can go wrong for us,” he said.

“Also we need to make sure we play 90 minutes of football, the boys exhausted themselves today (yesterday) and ended up getting tired towards the end of the game, so we need to conserve energy and play smart football.

There are a few niggling injuries with the players but Rodu has assured that it is nothing major and the players will be fit to play today.

Meanwhile, Lautoka coach Lambert Sarju said when it came to the finals it was a whole different ball game as they last won the B.O.G in 1985.

“It will be a tough game because the finals are a different level and Rewa is very strong team,” he said.

“But I told the boys this maybe our year and the onus is on us to win it.”

nRewa play Lautoka today in the INKK Mobile Battle of the Giants final at 3pm at the ANZ Stadium, Suva.
