The Reach 4 Your Future Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has encouraged schools all over the country to be engaged in Information Technology literacy.

Foundation president Ganesh Sen said the programme was important for students, especially at this stage.

“We are currently facing a new era of modernisation and it is important that we know how to operate this sort of programmes,” Mr Sen said.

“To date the foundation has established three IT hubs in Fiji. They are at the Lautoka Andhra Sangam School, School for Special Education in Lautoka, and Vatukoula Arya Samaj Primary School.”

They are fully-equipped IT centres supported by Microsoft Corporation.

Mr Sen said the established centres had been installed with sustainable computing environment.

“The system has significantly low power usage which will allow use of solar energy for deploying the system in remote areas accessible,” he said.

He said portable computing gadgets like tablets would be used in schools and communities to ensure users keep up with technology evolvement.

The hubs will be used as integrated digital literacy centres where students and members of communities will benefit from using Microsoft’s accredited training programmes which is used in over 160 countries.

IT hubs will be soon opened in Lautoka at Natabua High School and Ratu Navula College in Nadi.
