The 31st annual Musket Cove Regatta 2014 which starts at Malolo Lailai Island this Friday is getting bigger and better.

Musket Cove Yacht Club secretary Sophie Daveta, who has been working on Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina since 1987, said the event has grown bigger and better over the years.

“Right now, we have the whole 25 moorings booked out. Yachts are out there and our entry right now is 70 and it might go up to 90,” Daveta said.

“There are 100 plus yachties at the Savusavu Yacht Club right now. I know most of them, once they know about the Fiji Regatta week, they will all come here.”

Daveta says this is the peak of the yachting season in Fiji which started in May right to the end of October.

“We are looking forward to meeting all other yachties from all over the world as it’s the time of fun and of getting together. People call into Musket Cove Marina, knowing the basis of our annual event; register all their paperwork and they cruise around the Fiji waters,” she added.

Other competitions include the golf tournament, Vonu Paddle Race from Namotu Island Resort, Port Opua Hobie Cat challenge, and the much anticipated Fiji Water Round Malolo Classic (near Sandbank).

Daveta said this year, a new committee had been headed by Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina general manager, Garry Snodgrass.

“He has come up with great ideas together with Jack Hangreves, our Yacht Club Commodore and a few new people contributed to the committee of the Fiji Regatta 2014.”

The sponsors for the event are Paradise Beverages, FIJI Water, Tourism Fiji, Punjas, Pacific Energy, Victoria Wines, Vodafone, Port Opua, Bridge Marina Travelift, Tauranga Marine Industry Association, Tauranga Bridge Marina, CJ Patel, Tappoo, and resorts including Lomani Island, Plantation Island, and Beachcomber.

The event will be hosted at Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina on September 5 – 10.
