Suva Bowling Club received a timely financial boost yesterday ahead of their annual Suva businesshouse competition which starts on Thursday.

The club was presented $2000 from Basic Industries head of sales and marketing Sai Tokalau.

Club vice-president Martin Fong applauded the donation. He said it was the first time for them to secure a major sponsor.

“We’re grateful for this sponsorship,” Fong said.

“This is probably one of the first major sponsors for business-house competition that we’ve received this year.

“We need to promote the sport of bowls and we’ve identified a lot of new bowlers from businesshouse comp in the past.”

Tokalau believes the sponsorship would open doors for both parties involved.

“I think sports could be an ideal area to promote our product.

“I hope that the Suva Bowling Club will make sure that the tournament will be a success and on behalf of Basic Industries I wish them all.”

The 2014 competition starts on Thursday and ends on Saturday.
