People Asked For No Poll: Bainimarama
The Commander Republic of Fiji Military Force, Rear Admiral Viliame Naupoto.

The Prime Minister and FijiFirst leader, Voreqe Bainimarama, yesterday on the FBC TV talkback show, Vakekeli,  said many people wanted no election for the nation.

“I received a request from Kadavu last week that there should be no election as they are happy with the way Government is running the country,” he gave as an example.

He said he could have called off the elections but he wanted the people to elect a leader and a government to run the country.

The very reason the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) took over leadership in 2006 was that the Laisenia Qarase-led Soqosoqo Duvata ni Lewenivanua Government was promoting a lot of racist policies, he said.

Because SDL continued to promote racialism, he said the RFMF took over leadership- to promote multiracialism.

Now he said SDL had changed its name to Social Deemocratic Liberia Party (SODELPA) and in their election campaign they were again promoting racialism.

“They wanted the GCC back and are saying that land is not secured,” he added

He said the GCC was abolished because it was too political and was used for political gains by the SDL.

The Prime Minister made his assurance to all the iTaukei that their land was protected under the Constitution.
