Fiji Television Limited’s commitment to bring back three of the popular channels replaced by SKY Pacific still stands, its major shareholder has assured.

These would be Star Plus, BBC and Nat Geo Wild.

Fijian Holdings Group Limited, as a major shareholder of Fiji Television, has confirmed this.

Group chief executive, Nouzab Fareed, said whilst they have already begun with negotiation, they now are facing problems with the broadcasters.

He said the broadcasters who have the rights to these channels are fully aware of the situation and are therefore asking for more money in terms of the price.

But he said they are still negotiating and although it will be a fairly expensive deal, they will be bringing back these channels.

Background

Effective August 3, SKY Pacific introduced 11 new channels taking up the total number of channels to 24 but it also replaced nine of the old channels.

Since then, the Consumer Council of Fiji has been inundated with complaints from disgruntled SKY Pacific subscribers.

This had even led to the council meeting with the Fiji TV management.

The reintroduction of these three channels will take the total number of channels on SKY Pacific now to 27.
