‘Team Top Of The South’ Wins

Team ‘Top of the South’ led by Peter, Shona Johnson, Mike Inwood and Tania Appleman, won the 2014 Sheraton Fiji Villa Teams Challenge at Denarau Golf course last weekend.

The members of New Zealand’s Motueka Golf Club shot a winning margin of nine points. They finished with 875 points.

Captain Peter Johnson said, “They will be back, and their expectations had been exceeded, greatly”.

Team ‘Shore Mata’s’ with team members Jill and Graeme Udy (NZ – North Shore GC) along with Chris and Paul Mackenzie (NZ – Matamata, GC) were placed second on 866 points.

Local teams ‘Fijian Floozies’ were placed down the field which included Sulu Brook, Linda Callaghan and Edwina Paterson, (DGRC members) alongside Suva’s Sereima Bale, finishing with 828 points in 8th place.  Team name of ‘Strugglers Cove’ with Laura Cunning, Trevor Fox, Marc Hinton and Joy Leslie finished in 15th place with total points of 819. PaR NZ Golfing Holidays director Denise Langdon said the tournament finished in great style.

“The tournament includes four days of golf at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club,” Langdon said.

Langdon said the dates for the 2015 Sheraton Fiji Villa Teams Challenge would be August  9-14, after the Sheraton Fiji Denarau Women’s Golf Classic. Meanwhile national rep Sam Lee guided Team Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji to victory at the Charity team Ambrose event at the Natadola Bay Championship Golf Course last Saturday. The team of Peter Hopgood, Lindsey Palmer and Russell Blake finished the 18 holes event nine under off the stick to earn 55 points.
