The biggest and most anticipated auxiliary sailboat regatta, The Fiji Annual Regatta Week, has drawn international yachties from various international ports to the Musket Cove Island Resort and Marina this Friday.

Participants this year have travelled in from as far as South Africa, Gibraltar, Cayman Islands, United Kingdom, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Canada, Switzerland, Germany, and some registrations had been received from the Royal Suva Yacht Club, Vuda Marina and Denarau.

Resort and Marina manager sales and marketing, Kini Saukuru, said this event continued to grow from strength to strength over the years since it started in 1980.

“Internationally recognised as the original and the “Grand-Daddy of all the South Pacific Events, Fiji Annual Regatta Week continues to attract scores of boat types and sizes from around the globe,” Saukuru said.

“Luxury yachts, simple yachts, racing yachts and cruising yachts alike will converge once again and drop anchor in our tranquil bay. This will be our 31st year of hosting this event.

“Fiji has certainly proved that we are not only an island paradise for rest and relaxation, but has become one of the great yachting, cruising and sailing destinations in the world.

“The increase of world renowned cruiseliners and super yachts to our shores is testament to this. So far, 72 yachts have registered and we are looking at receiving more registration this week.

“We are looking forward to another yacht club’s Week of the Year, when great times, camaraderie, good matured fun for everyone, friendships renewed and new friendships are the order of the day.

“This is the reason that the Musket Cove Yacht Club is able to provide prizes, trophies, hosting and activities of Fiji Regatta Week because of the support and loyalty of our sponsors throughout the 31years.”
