Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea” returns this year through the assistance of the Motibhai Group.

This is done to help raise funds for the Fiji Cancer Society to carry out awareness programmes and help cancer patients.

The Minister for Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Jiko Luveni, said cancer in Fiji was the third leading cause of deaths.

She said this was one of the best ways to not only raise funds and most importantly raise more awareness on cancer.

Dr Luveni said from 2006 to 2012, over $3000 was raised and these funds have been in the Society’s “Patient and Client Care” programme.

“Fiji’s Biggest Morning Tea was initially launched in 2006 with a hope to build a cancer hospice in Fiji,” Dr Luveni said.

She said this year’s event would be used to mobilise support towards the new direction the Cancer Society was taking.

The campaign will run until September 15.
