Church Communications Department Strengthened
The Methodist Church in Fiji has upgraded its use of social media in order to communicate with its members on a regular basis.
The church’s secretary for communication, Reverend James Bhagwan, said social media was an important tool to get messages across to its members.
“The church leaders began promoting that it was important for the Methodist Church in Fiji to be what we call a communicative church. A church that communicates both internally with its members and society,” Rev Bhagwan said.
“This department has been revived and there has been a lot of groundwork done by the Communication Steering Committee which began in 2012.
Rev Bhagwan said communication was important.
“This year we have taken it in a big way. In our research we learned that there are people who are always online; on the mobile phones; listening to the radio and there are people in the outer islands who cannot access the internet so we want to reach our members in different areas,” he said
“This year we revived the newsletter for the church so that we can reach those who do not have the internet.”
Rev Bhagwan said it was about reaching out to the members of the church.
