There was a low voter turnout at the Savusavu Govt depot pre-polling yesterday.

Some voters complained they were unaware that pre-polling was happening.

Presiding officer Savenaca Cama could only say that people were coming in to vote but at a slow rate.

Savusavu resident Salaivalu Mati said she had just been informed of the early voting.

“We are so frustrated that we were told that pre-polling was going to take place.” She said.

“Most of us were all looking forward to the major election on the 17th of this month.” Ms Mati said.

Virimi Mani also said that they were all not aware of this pre-polling voting.

“I think that is why the turnout is very low because people in these areas were not informed of the pre-polling” he said.

First-time voter Simon William said that it was really a good feeling to go and vote.

“Even though a good number is not turning up at this polling station but I am happy that I am involved in the choosing of a new democratic government,” he said.
