At least 20, 000 people living in Lami and Veisari are set to benefit from the upgrade of the Kalekana reservoir.

The cost of the upgrade is more than $15million.

Water Authority of Fiji chief executive officer Opetaia Ravai said the renovation works in Lami began in mid-2013.

The filling of the reservoir will increase water storage by 40 percent for the Tamavua system.

“Today is the recommissioning of Kalekana reservoir which has been left idle for eight years.

“The utilisation of the Kalekana reservoir after so many years will surely help curb water supply problems for people living in the greater Suva area, especially in the Lami–Veisari corridor,” MrRavai said.

A number of households, including two villages, will now have access to a reliable supply of water after years adapting to life without a constant supply of water.

Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) continues to strive in providing sustainable quality water to the people of Fiji.
