More than 100 registered voters in Cuvu, Sigatoka, who turned up for the FijiFirst party campaign there on Thursday night claimed to have switched allegiance from the Fiji Labour Party and the National Federation Party.

Speaking on behalf of the crowd, Ganesh Mudaliar, 67, a farmer, said FLP and NFP had been given their chance to lead Fiji but could not live up to the expectations of Fijians.

“This year around, we are voting for FijiFirst party because they are not a party with typical leaders who wrestle each other and play the blame game,’’ Mr Mudaliar said.

“I voted for FLP and NFP and I believe that my vote has gone down the drain, but this time my vote will decide the fate of Fiji and our children.

“FijiFirst party is about building a future for Fiji and we here in Cuvu support them and hope they lead Fiji for years to come,’’ he said.

He said voters in Cuvu have been following news in the media on political campaigns by FLP and NFP and would make informed choices during the elections.

“We need a forward looking Government and we have faith in FijiFirst party because they have safeguarded the rights of Fijians in the 2013 Constitution.

FijiFirst party general secretary Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum stressed the importance of this election for Fiji and its citizens. Mr Sayed-Khaiyum said the Bainimarama Government had listed a lot of socio-economic rights in the 2013 Constitution under the Bill of Rights.

“The Bainimarama Government has started this and if we stay in there for another couple of terms, then we hope this thinking will be engraved in any political party that comes in,’’ he said.
