Winners Dedicate Song To Detained Soldiers

The Navy Wives Choir yesterday won the Army Wives and Mothers Club inter-unit choir competition.

Their winning song Jisu Na Neimami Turaga Sa Cecere was dedicated to the 45 Fijian peacekeepers detained in the Golan Heights.

The choir competition was part of the Army Wives and Mothers Club Inter-unit Tournament that concluded with a thanksgiving service at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua.

Choir conductor SaloteQima said the song they sang was meant to send a message.

“We knew families of the soldiers would be present here today so we wanted to sing a song that would pass on a message to them that there is a God superior above all things, a God that brings peace,” Ms Qima said.

She said the song was their way of prayer for the safe release of the soldiers.

“We know that their families must be missing them and worrying about them. We dedicate this song to them wherever they maybe today and wishing them a happy Father’s Day,” Ms Qima said.

She thanked God for their win and the choir members for the effort that they put in during their two weeks practice.

Winners for the choir competition:

1st place: Navy

2nd place: Strategic Headquarters

3rd place: Force Training Group & Third Battalion Infantry Regiment (3FIR)
