The Vodafone Fiji National Under-20 technical advisor Frank Farina believes Fiji football will grow if the resources are well utilised in years to come.

Farina arrived last Sunday to assist coach Ravinesh Kumar prepares the team for the 2015 FIFA World Cup in New Zealand.

The former Socceroos/coach said setting up Fiji Football Association academies in Ba and Suva augurs well for the development of sport.

He said if thorough preparation was given at the age group level, the flow on effect will benefit the national team.

“The key for Fiji Football is to step up in the youth development,”Farina said.

“Simply to continue with the growth that we have in place is not enough.  We really have to step up youth development and put in a lot of resources into that.

“Fiji has the facilities and there is no reason why Fiji Football couldn’t compete well eight years from now.”

Farina, who will be in the country for two weeks, had his first meeting with the Fiji Football Association officials outlining their programme for the week.

“We have started the planning to take us the FIFA U20 World Cup,” he said.
