Tuwai, Nacuqu Help Stingers To 7s Victory

Vodafone Fiji 7s reps Pio Tuwai and Waisea Nacuqu steered Safe Landing Yasawa Stingers to 19-17 victory over Red Rock in the Cup final of the inaugural South Pacific Security Nakoronubu 7s.

Stingers won $2000 while Red Rock returned to Qauia  $800 richer last Saturday at the Ba Market ground.

Tuwai and Nacuqu were rested only to feature in the final.

Stingers defeated Western Wardens 19- 7 in the first semifinal while Red Rock beat Western Surburbs 12-5 in another clash.

Tournament organiser Solo Vakanawa said 22 teams took part.

“We did expect tough competitions from top clubs,” Vakanawa.

He said the tournament director George Singh has pledged to host the tournament on annual basis.

“George was quiet happy with the tournament and it will be on a yearly event in Ba,” Vakanawa said.

“He would increase the prizemoney from next year.”

Vakanawa said the money raised from the tournament would assist in the upgrade of the gymnasium for the neighbouring Sorokoba and Sasa rugby clubs.

Meanwhile, Yamacia Gold and Yamacia Green shared $900 for playing in the Plate final while VSN defeated Sorokoba Two and received $300 for winning the Bowl title.
