Working With Disabilities

This is a project initiated by the Integrated Human Resource Development Programme (IHRDP) for the special school.
IHRDP officer at the Commissioner Northern’s office Aslam Khan said the workshop has been completed and was ready for operation.
He said painting of the building and construction of footpath was also completed.
“All the construction work has been done by students of the school and teachers,” Mr Khan said.
“The school employs four disabled graduate male students on a part-time basis who have graduated in carpentry and joinery.”
Labasa Special School headteacher Mukesh Chand, on Sunday, said the school would employ five to six students from the school on part-time basis.
“The cost of a coffin box ranges from $120- $500 and we expect good revenue from coffin sales.”
He said so far they had sold four adult coffins and two baby coffins.
“The teachers are looking forward to the opening and the parents are very supportive and are looking forward for the successful start of this venture.”
Meanwhile, the acting Commissioner Northern, Alipate Bolalevu, will open the project on September 16.
