Now anti-government bloggers are going to town with the so-called affidavit of a mutiny leader from the now disbanded Counter Revolutionary Warfare unit Shane Stevens.

Are any of these allegations to be trusted? Dickie Bird said many saw the CRW unit as a highly trained squad. But what they do not know is that these elite soldiers were also known as masters of deception.

PLOT TALK

Still on the Stevens’ affidavit… one of the May 19, 2000 gunmen that stormed parliament Maciu Navakasuasua told Dickie Bird that the attempted civilian coup was the work of a few Taukei nationalist movement members and certain CRW soldiers. They had been part of meetings putting together the plot.

Dickie Bird said for everyone’s interest even one of the gunmen on that fateful day is now an election candidate. This candidate has already served his jail term.

COALITION MOVES

Is there going to be a new coalition between the Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)? This question was asked because a PDP election candidate was seen with the SODELPA team during their campaign. Dickie Bird said if that is happening then what’s going on with the much-publicised coalition between SODELPA and the Fiji Labour Party?

PART-ING TIME?

During last weekend’s campaign meeting in Sakoca, Tacirua, NFP leader Dr Biman Prasad said this is a new-look party and should not be compared to what it was like before. Dickie Bird said the leader was confident of a good outcome after a good turnout in their Labasa rally.

Despite the NFP and Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) progress in the Indo Fijian communities, word from the Fiji Labour Party is that it’s going to be a repeat of the 1999 general elections. There they won all the Indo Fijian seats (under the 1997 Constitution).

The question is: Are they all underestimating FijiFirst? One prominent Indo Fijian political family has already indicated its support for FijiFirst because of its emphasis on equality, true democracy and a proper national name for all.
