The National Federation Party has denied any discussions with the FijiFirst party to form a coalition post election.

In a press conference yesterday at its headquarters leader Dr Biman Prasad said all these were lies as the party wanted to form government on its own.

“We have repeatedly stated since  December 2013 that we are fighting the elections on our own and intend to solely form a majority government,” Dr Prasad said.

He said people were misleading voters to win votes.

“Misleading the voters in an attempt to win votes is a hallmark of politicians and political parties clutching at straws,” Dr Prasad said.

Would the party consider coalition after the election? He said they would cross the bridge when they come to it.

“But, let me add to that, that in any event where no political party has a clear majority, the NFP will be open to any kind of discussion in the formation of the next government based on our policies, principles and some of the key issues that we have highlighted in this election that we want to implement for the people of this country.”

Meanwhile the party has lodged complaints with the Electoral Commission regarding the FijiFirst party’s TV advertisement calling the NFP as liars.

“Last Friday we wrote to the Electoral Commission and pointed out that this was a breach of the Electoral Decree,” Dr Prasad said.

“Because Mr Bainimarama is not saying what the NFP is lying about, the truth is that we have never lied or misled our people throughout our 51-year history.

“We believe that we have delivered what we have promised to the people of Fiji and we have not been tainted by any of the four coups since 1987.”
