Talk Of Unrest Lies: PM

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama yesterday assured Indo-Fijians that the police and the military would protect them if there was unrest after the general election.

He was speaking at a FijiFirst rally at the Labasa Civic Centre.

“I want to send out some words of encouragement to all Indo-Fijian brothers because I have heard that there have been warnings by National Federation Party and SODELPA party supporters that there will be mayhem  in Fiji if FijiFirst wins,” he said.

“I have heard that people have been told to start preparing and going to supermarkets and prepare for retaliations if Fiji First wins and I want to tell you not to be taken or driven for those lies.

“The Police will protect you and the military who have protected you from the past will continue to protect you. So do not listen to these lies.”

He said the perpetrators of these lies were “a bunch of losers.”

Mr Bainimarama thanked the FijiFirst supporters for not spoiling any other political parties and abiding by the law.

“We are thankful that none of the supporters for Fiji First has vandalised banners of other political parties,” he said.

He said people were tearing off FijiFirst banner because they did not want free bus fares or any other developments in their respective areas.

“I won’t be surprise if people of Cakaudrove will not be voting for Ratu Naiqama because people have seen what has been done for the last six years on the policies we have come up with and the needs for our children.”

A big crowd turned up to hear Mr Bainimarama.
