Veteran politician Apisai Tora, a prominent member of the Taukei Movement in the 1987 political upheaval, attended a FijiFirst meeting in Sabeto, Nadi, this week.

While he sat through the two-hour meeting, he declined to comment.

Mr Tora was one of the leaders of the Taukei marches in Suva demonstrating against Dr Timoci Bavadra’s coalition government, which was later deposed in a military coup led by Sitiveni Rabuka.

Meanwhile, 51-year-old grandmother Josivini Nai,  said she was supporting FijiFirst.

She was among the more than 100 people who heard the Movement’s general secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum speak to them on a number of issues.

“It shows that we support the FijiFirst party, simply because we have seen the development done for us poor people,” said Ms Nai.

“A lot of infrastructure especially in the interior. Free education for our children. What else would we ask at this hour? They promise milk to be provided to our children from next year. Most parents cannot afford that each day and this will make our children get stronger and healthy.”

She said the party’s manifesto spoke of more developments which would benefit poor people in the long run.
