The Grand Fijian apartment, hotel and spa project, officially launched this week, is expected to boost investor confidence as architect explores new heights with the 30-level high rise tower.

Fiji/Suva Retailers Association president, Himmat Lodhia, said the tower is likely set the tone for more taller buildings to be constructed in the capital.

“A project like this is definitely a big boost for the entire Suva economy,” he said.

“The Fijian economy maybe as a whole but for the Suva economy we’re definitely very proud to see a structure like this go up.

“If it goes up, the sooner the better because it smacks right in the middle of the city as it is means a totally new thing for Fiji.”

Mr Lodhia said the association welcomed more investments as such and applauded Sharma Design Group Limited for having the foresight to look above and beyond.

“This is probably an inception and introduction. Once this comes in there will probably be a lot more people who would be interested to ‘put their hands in their pocket’ and say ‘hey, I want to invest also’ because this shows the investor-confidence.

“It’s what we want to see in Fiji,” he added.

Investment encouraging

For Investment Fiji, the local investor confidence is truly encouraging, executive chairman, Truman Bradley, said.

“As chairman of Investment Fiji, I’d like to say how we appreciate investment coming from the local community,” Mr Bradley said.

“It’s quite encouraging to see that we have foreign investors coming for foreign direct investment (FDI) but it’s also seeing our local investors investing back into the country makes a big difference.

“It shows the sort of support and encouragement they put in Government and the current stance that we have and the incentives we’re giving.”

He said given Government’s reassurance, the past year to support the local investors; it showed that the current investment policies were surely working not only for foreign investors but locals too.

He applauded the opportunities that also came with the investment.

“We do believe of the opportunities it’s bringing and the opportunity for employment is great for the country,” Mr Bradley said.

“The best part is Government in the last year also started to look after local investors….the local reinvestment or new investment as such as …. is a real encouragement to the policies that we have in place.

“So it’s very encouraging for employment of the country and the value of that investment coming into our country.”
