The May 19, 2000, coup leader George Speight is in prison, says Assistant Commissioner of Corrections Josefa Kulinidilo.

He was reacting to stories spreading on social media about Speight being beaten up and admitted at the Suva Private Hospital.

All this, Mr Kulinidilo says, are ‘wild rumours.’

“It is all lies. He is well looked after at Naboro Maximum Security Prison,” he said.

“People are just spreading rumours. He was not beaten or anything, it is only wild rumours.

“He’s safe in Naboro carrying out his duties like all the other inmates.”
