The Ministry of Education expressed its sincere appreciation of donated musical instruments by the People’s Republic of China last Friday.

The donated instruments also included television sets, laptops and multimedia projectors worth $19,000.

The acting Permanent Secretary for Education, National Heritage, Culture and the Arts, Basundra Kumar, said the donation was another example of the genuine friendly ties existing between China and Fiji.

“Let me express our sincere appreciation to the People’s Republic of China for the generosity shown in its commitment towards the development and strengthening of the culture and arts sector in Fiji,” Mrs Kumar said.

She said the equipment and musical instruments donated would be used by various cultural agencies and some educational institutions.

“This should greatly impact the teaching of culture by those who will be responsible for carrying the skills into the future,” Ms Kumar said.

Meanwhile, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Fiji, Huang Yong, said the donation brings with it the friendly feelings of the Chinese people towards the Fiji people.

“We hope these instruments will help to promote the cultural life of the Fiji people and contribute to the development of the cultural cause in Fiji,” Mr Yong said.
