The Apisalome Turuva- captained Labasa side is closer to sealing a spot in the OFC Champions League next season.

This was after the Babasiga Lions recorded a 3-1 win over Nadroga during the Fiji Sun/Skipper Tuna National Football League match at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka last night.

The Babasiga Lions will play Shop N Save Nadi at Prince Charles Park, Nadi tonight at 7pm.

Suva extended their lead in the League points tally with healthy 33 points, ahead of Ba (25), Labasa (23) leapfrog Nadi (22) while Rewa on 18.

What happened:

Krishneel Krishna opened the floodgates in the 2nd minute.

Halftime: Labasa 1- 0 Nadroga.

In the 48th minute Joseph Mishra increased Labasa lead 2-0 with brilliant solo effort.

In the 56th minute Taione Kerevanua scored from a penalty after Domoni brought Mishra down in the box.

A blunder in the Labasa defence caused a goal to be scored by Nadroga’s Krishneel Dutt in the 90th  minute.

Labasa kept on applying the pressure and managed to pull another goal to Christopher Wasasala beating Nadroga defender Ravinesh Dass placing a shot past Baleiloa in the injury time.

Big plus: Labasa goalkeeper Epeli Loaniceva played a man of the match performance.

Star turn: Nadroga left link Elvin Prasad read the game well.

Comments: Labasa coach Pita Baleitoga said, “Hats off to the boys as we came here for three points. We had a lot of chances but were not able to convert those moments into goals but we have to fix it before our match against Nadi.”

Nadroga coach Joseph Nand said, “We are very disappointed with the loss; we had some great chances but the finishing was not there and Labasa was good. We are happy since we won’t be demoted this season.”
