It was a proud moment for Suva Muslim College in Nabua after they won the most number of awards at the Fiji Muslim League (FML) annual Teachers Award Night for 2013 on Saturday.

They were awarded with Best Principal and Best School awards.

School principal Bharti Singh said they won because of the hard work shown by the teachers and the students.

“It was sheer hard work and determination of the teachers, students and the management which has paid off,” Ms Singh said.

She said the awards were a valuable contribution to the school.

“The award was given on set targets by the Fiji Muslim League, but Suva Muslim College topped other colleges like Kamil College in Ba, Nasinu Muslim College, Lautoka Muslim College and Nadi Muslim College.”

Ministry of Education acting Permanent Secretary Basundra Kumar said they commended the work of the league.

“It brings a lot of satisfaction, fulfillment and joy when a child under a teachers care, becomes successful in life and contributes positively to society,” Mrs Kumar said.

Apart from the academic curriculum, she advised parents that discipline, hard work, perseverance and determination had the same significance as passing examinations.

“These are instilled and nurtured which is continued in schools so that teachers do not have difficulty in moulding students.”
