Enabling of electronic nominations for the 2014 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards has led to record number of nominations being received.

Over 320 discrete nominations have been received across the 13 categories from over 110 operators and individuals from all around the country.

The Trustees and Organising Committee of the 2014 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards have announced this.

The Trustees welcomed an increasing number of smaller and boutique operators to the awards process.

They also congratulated returning nominees who have been consistently nominated in previous years.

Committee chairman, Matthew Gillespie, said the always popular “Frontliner of the Year” and “Fiji Experience” categories are again being heavily contested.

And, he said, entries to the “Individual – Back of House” and “Spa and Wellness” categories introduced in 2013 have dramatically increased in 2014.

“These, along with the general increase in entries in all other categories, will make the 2014 season the most challenging yet for the judges,” Mr Gillespie said.

The next step

With nominations now closed, all nominees will be invited to submit applications which will enable the judges to begin the assessment process.

The judges will then commence site visits once the shortlists of finalists are announced in early October.

Normally there are three finalists in each category, however, looking at the large volume of applications, the organising committee feels there could be more than three in each.

The 2014 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards will be held on February 20 with a venue yet to be confirmed.

Mr Gillespie thanked all the sponsors of the event saying the awards could not happen without their support.

He thanked AON Risk, Platinum sponsor, ANZ, returning Gold Sponsor, and Silver sponsors Airports Fiji Limited and Fiji Airways who continue to be long term supporter of the awards, as does Bronze Sponsor Crest Chicken.

Awards night event sponsors include; premier Event Sponsor Tappoo which will be expanding their sponsored selection of premium international beverages, FIJI Water, Pure Fiji and media partner, the Fiji Sun.
