The Western Division has been described as “an area of concern” for the Land Transport Authority as statistics has revealed a high trend in road fatalities in the division.

Authority spokesperson Iliesa Sokia said the road fatalities at the moment stands at 34 compared to 26 for the same period last year.

“Controlling the increase in road fatalities will come down to the attitude of the public on how they use the roads,” Mr Sokia said.

“We have indicated ‘red spot areas’ and Police are monitoring these areas by ensuring that motorists and pedestrians practise road safety.”

He said out of the 34 recorded fatalities in the country, 11 were from the West.

Mr Sokia said the authority would continue to monitor roads to ensure road safety rules were followed by the public.
