Independent candidate Umesh Chand says he will start preparations to the next general elections after conceding defeat yesterday.

As the nation awaits the formation of the next elected government, Mr Chand said a road accident eight days before the elections affected his campaign.

He knew he was fighting a losing battle. He was involved in a road accident at Tukavesi Village, Cakaudrove, which landed him in hospital for eight days.

Whatever results were there, he said, he would accept it because he knew that he would not get through since he was bedridden.

The 36-year-old from Labasa said he did not wish to make any public statement, but would accept that people had supported him and he has more days to go.

“I am still young and I have more to learn and hopefully I would be contesting in the next elections, in four years time. I would appreciate whatever results are there and I thank all those who supported me.”

He said he had been grateful to all those who assisted and supported him and he would return after four years.
