Former national sevens captain/coach Waisale Serevi is ready to offer his assistance to Vodafone Fiji 7s coach Ben Ryan in the build-up to the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Serevi told SUNsports from Seattle, U.S.A yesterday that he had been discussing the issue with Ryan.

“I’m always available to help Ben on the road to Rio if needed and we already had discussions,” Serevi said.

The Qarani, Gau man warns this would be a crucial year for rugby 7s for Fiji as they need to be in the top four of the HSBC Sevens World Series to automatically qualify for the 2016 Olympics.

And he is advising players to have faith in themselves and the coaches.

“This is a very important year for rugby 7s and my advice to the players is to have faith in themselves, in the coaches and believe that they can do the job for all of us,” he said.

Serevi is calling on his fellow Fijians to focus on winning the Gold Coast 7s next month.

“The goal should be first things first, all the training that they are doing now should focus on winning at Gold Coast 7s.

“Forget about the next tournament and play like it’s the last tournament in your life and to set the platform for winning the 2014-15 HSBC Sevens World Series because finishing in the top four is not good enough,” Serevi said.

The journey will be tough but Serevi believes we have the players who will do Fiji proud.

“I want to wish Ben all the best and we are all looking forward to a better result.

“It will be tough but not impossible. I believe we have the players to do us proud this season.”

Serevi looks forward to meeting the team next month since Serevi Rugby would also be having camps with HSBC at the Gold Coast.

The Gold Coast 7s will be held on October 11-12.
