Fiji Rugby Union is going into rural schools to help lift the profile of the sport.

Rugby development manager (West) Joeli Tubu is introducing the Grow into Rugby (GIR) programme in Tavua, Vatukoula and the Ra province.

“The two main objectives of the programme is to enhance skills and knowledge of the game,” Tubu said.

He said girls and boys participated in the programme.

Other schools that have already joined the programme include Toko Sanatan Primary, Tavua Primary, Tavua District, Vatukoula Convent, Natawa and Nadarivatu Primary.

Nadelei Catholic School assistant headteacher Seru Lawakeli thanked FRU for their support.

“We wish to thank the FRU for introducing the programme in our school,” Lawakeli said.
