Two New Vehicles For Welfare Ministry

The reach of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Women and Poverty Alleviation in the central and western divisions will be boosted with the two new twin cab vehicles it received.

These vehicles were handed over yesterday to the Department of Women in the west and the Department of Social Welfare in Nausori.

The ministry’s permanent secretary, Dr Josefa Koroivueta, says the new vehicles will assist in providing timely and efficient services delivery.

“This ministry is often challenged with the provision of quality services and efficient response delivery for the disadvantaged, women and children in the area.

“This is a strategy that will respond to reports of child abuse, violence against women, community education, poverty assessment and monitoring, income generation, fire victims and empowerment of women,” Mr Koroivueta said.

Nausori welfare office’s new vehicle, he said, would enhance their reaching out to people in Tailevu and Naitasiri provinces.

“I do know of the challenges in reaching communities in Tailevu, Naitasiri and the Wainibuka area. As better road infrastructures are created by the government, the opportunity to empower our communities economically drives us further to eliminate poverty in our midst and contribute to a reduction in the national poverty line,” he said.
