The two-day Lami Parish Bazaar came to an end yesterday.

It was held to strengthen relationships between parishioners and also help unite the people of Lami.

Its organiser, Leone Waqanivalu, said many people from Delanivesi to Naboro turned up to the bazaar.

“The bazaar was to help in the functioning and operation for the daily activities of the three churches in Lami and one primary school,” Mr Waqanivalu said.

He said they collected $96,000 in last year’s bazaar.

“We do this once a year to raise funds and try and get the community involved.”

He said this year they aimed to collect $100,000 and build a secondary school.

“We have asked Government for assistance and they have agreed.”

One of the participants, Arieta Naivalu, said it was an exciting time not only for members of the church, but also for the public.

“We have a very big number of young people and it is encouraging that they have put their hands up for this annual bazaar,” Ms Naivalu said.

She said the bazaar was to help raise funds for the day to day running of the church.

Pot plants, flowers, pre-cooked food, clothing and other items were sold in the bazaar.
