Rainun Strides To Be An Industrious Farmer

Rainun Nisha has taken in her stride to be an energetic and industrious farmer.

Ms Nisha is married with four kids and resides at Tokatoka in Navua.

She was a happy lady after being awarded the Layer Farmer of the Year during the recent the Central Division Agriculture show. It was hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture at Syria Park in Nausori.

The 42-year-old farmer’s four and half acres poultry farm is a self funded operation with 1000 layer birds of which 600 are laying and is producing 45 dozen/day. These are later sold at Suva, Navua and at her farm gate.

“I need assistance from government to build extra sheds, cage and supply me with baby chicks. I started with 40 chicks in a small shed but then it increased to 100 to 200,” She said.

“I look after the farm because my husband works in Suva and it motivates me to do things to the best of my ability. At the moment we have sold 500 chicks and built a big shed with about seven cages.

“I use the manure from the poultry farm on my vegetable farm but the vegetables are later sold at the market.”

Her future plan is to increase her layer birds to 2000. Currently she operates with three poultry sheds and is a owner of one minivan which uses for transporting her produce.

She is best described by the ministry as another superb example of a successful lady farmer.
