A resident of Wainigasau Settlement, outside Lami, said houses in the area have not been receiving water through their taps for almost one month now. Varanisese Tuinasakea said they have carted water throughout this period by the Water Authority but at irregular intervals.

“Those carting water visited us irregularly, sometimes they would come early in the morning or right in the evening. It was until Monday when they started coming regularly,” Ms Tuinasakea said.

The 42-year-old said they had been using pools and streams in the area but unfortunately those too dried up.

“Because the dry season has been too long those water sources have dried up, making it more difficult for us,” Ms Tuinasakea said.

Meanwhile, Joseva Lasaro of Wailekutu said he noticed a change in the supply of water.

“This never use to happen before but now we are facing this problem of water supply everyday and the Lami area is one that is always affected,” Mr Lasaro said.

He said since water was supplied to them on alternate days they would only receive water in the evenings till the early hours of the morning.

“At least we have water carted to the area during the day and we are grateful for that,” Mr Lasaro said.

He said even when there was water running through their taps, people living on higher grounds, like Panaromic, don’t get water because the water pressure is low.
