The students of Labasa Special School were delighted when a social and sports club brought lunch for the students yesterday at the school.

The social club that uses the school’s name has been helping the school through various projects.

Club captain and former Labasa and current Savusavu rep, Samuela Ligairi said the club had been doing this for a while.

“Last week we donated 50 louvre blades for the school and also constructed a thatched bure for the students to use during their breaks,” Ligairi said.

“What are we also doing is to let the community recognise that these special children need special attention,”

“We use the ground every afternoon for training and just keep fit because it is a lifetime investment and avoiding NCDs,” Mr Ligairi said.

“It is because some of our members are from the medical field and the rest are business owners in Labasa,” he said.

“With this community outreach the club also wants to dedicate it to a daughter of one of the club members who is undergoing kidney treatment in New Zealand,” Mr Ligairi said.

“Our club is also involved in a futsal tournament here in Labasa.”

The school’s head teacher, Mukesh Chand said that was the first time the school had come across a multiracial group serving lunch in the school.

“We are so lucky that the club is using the school’s name when they go out in the field,” Mr Chand said.

“With this it brings promotion, awareness to the school itself.”

“The school is so happy that we are included in the society and this club is helping the school’s needs through transportation and other essential requirements,” Mr Chand said.

“We are happy too that some business houses involved in this group can provide employment to our students after they graduate,” he said.
