The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption would not consolidate any other matters against the 11 former Puplic Works Department (PWD) employees.

The 11 appeared before High Court judge, Justice Janaka Bandara in Suva along with five stationery company directors in five separate cases.

The accused persons are Ana Laqere, Navitalai Tamanitoakula, Amelia Vunisea, Vaciseva Lagai, Vilisi Tuitavuki, Losalini Toroca, Laisa Halafi, Tavenisa Tavaga, Taniela Railala, Eparama Racumu, Kiniviliame Taviraki, Shalendra Kumar, Shalveen Narayan, Shalesh Bikhash, Roshini Lata, Abdul Shariff and Rajneil Anitma Wati.

They were earlier charged by FICAC for abuse of office, causing loss and obtaining financial advantage.

Suva lawyer Aseri Vakaloloma requested that the cases be consolidated because it may take the court a year to decide on the verdict considering the large number of accused persons involved.

He is representing Laqere, Tamanitoakula, Vunisea, Lagai, Tuitavuki, Toroca, Halafi, Railala, Racumu, Taviraki.

FICAC prosecutor, Rashmi Aslam said they would consider consolidating only two cases where the same accused persons were operating as the company directors of two separate companies.

Mr Aslam said they would not consolidate the other matters.

He sought further time to file additional disclosures and formal application for consolidation.

The matter is adjourned to November 7, 2014 for mention on service of additional disclosures and filing consolidation papers.

This is the biggest corruption case yet to be produced in court by FICAC.
